Former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has publicly clarified his political stance after a close associate switched parties, saying he remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite his former aide’s move to the African Peoples Movement (APM).
Adelabu’s aide, who previously worked with the ex‑minister, defected from the ruling APC to join the opposition APM, a development reported by local media. In response, Adelabu issued a statement distancing himself from the defection and reaffirming his continued loyalty to the APC.
The defection comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections in Oyo State, a key region in Nigeria’s southwest. While party switches are not uncommon in the lead‑up to elections, Adelabu’s remarks underscore his intention to stay aligned with the APC’s platform and leadership.
Adelabu, who served as Nigeria’s Minister of Power from 2021 to 2023, has not indicated any plans to change his party affiliation. His statement aims to separate his political identity from the actions of his former aide, reinforcing his commitment to the APC as the state and national elections approach.
