Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has denied claims made by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike that the federal government allocated N50 billion for the upgrade of Ibadan International Airport.
Wike reportedly said the federal budget had earmarked the sum to support the airport’s expansion, a statement that was widely circulated on social media and in local press.
In a statement released by the governor’s office, Makinde said the allegation was “untrue” and that the federal government had never provided the N50 billion to Oyo State for the project.
Makinde added that any discussions about funding for the airport upgrade were still pending and that the state was exploring other sources of finance, including private sector partnerships and state‑level investment.
The dispute highlights ongoing tensions over infrastructure funding between state and federal authorities, as Oyo seeks to modernise its airport to accommodate growing passenger traffic and boost regional connectivity.
