The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it had foiled a plot to damage a KEDCO transformer in Gumel Local Government Area of Jigawa State, arresting one suspect and seizing armoured cables worth 2 million naira.
According to the NSCDC, the attempt to vandalise the transformer was discovered early in the day, allowing the security forces to intervene before any damage could be inflicted. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene and is currently being processed by authorities.
In addition to the arrest, the NSCDC recovered a batch of armoured cables that had been intended for use in the sabotage. The cables were valued at 2 million naira, a significant loss for the local power infrastructure.
Jigawa State, located in northern Nigeria, has faced a number of power‑related incidents in recent months. The intervention by the NSCDC is part of a broader effort to protect critical electrical infrastructure across the region.
