Former Kano State governor and National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice‑presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso told a crowd in Jos on Friday that President Bola Tinubu’s administration does not deserve a second term, accusing the government of failing to tackle insecurity and poverty across Nigeria.

The remarks were made at a reception and Village Hall meeting organised by the Middle Belt Youth Council for the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket. Kwankwaso said the meeting was originally to be chaired by the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who was unable to attend because he was in Enugu.

“This ticket is a balanced, very balanced ticket. Every person is represented. And the two of us stand for the future,” Kwankwaso said. “Together, we are going to fight insecurity, poverty and illiteracy, and invest in agriculture and education.”

Drawing on his experience as governor of Kano and as Minister of Defence, Kwankwaso highlighted the country’s most pressing problems: illiteracy, poverty and a lack of employment opportunities. He pointed out that “there is no functional factory or industry to employ our men and women in this country, including Plateau State,” and that “you wake up and find that 10 people, 20 people, 100 people, or even more, are killed like chicken and nobody cares.”

“We must have leaders who are ready to protect the lives and properties of the citizens of this country and that is embedded in our Constitution. Any government that cannot do that, we cannot call that government a responsible government and that government does not deserve a second term.”

Kwankwaso urged the people of Plateau State to vote for the NDC ticket in the upcoming election, recalling that Peter Obi won the state in 2023 and that the new “Kwankwasiyya Movement” would add to the ticket’s appeal. He called on voters to “stand and protect those votes,” emphasising the need for a government that can safeguard citizens from bandits, Boko Haram and communal clashes.
