Sokoto State authorities have sealed an office that was being used by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after a dispute arose over the property's ownership. The closure was carried out while the state awaits clarification from the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) on the matter.
The state government’s decision to lock the premises follows reports that the ADC’s occupancy of the office was contested, prompting officials to intervene to prevent further conflict. The seal remains in place until the ownership issue is resolved.
According to officials, the NDIC – the agency responsible for overseeing financial institutions and related assets in Nigeria – has been asked to verify the rightful owner of the office. The state government said it will act on the NDIC’s findings before any further steps are taken.
The African Democratic Congress is a registered political party in Nigeria that participates in elections at the federal and state levels. The NDIC, meanwhile, is a federal body that insures depositors and manages the assets of failed financial institutions, often being consulted on property and asset disputes.
As of now, the sealed office remains inaccessible to ADC members, and the dispute remains pending a formal determination from the NDIC. No further comment has been made by either the party or the state government.
