RCCG Urges Journalists to Verify Recycled Images
The RCCG (Redeemed Christian Church of God) has called on journalists to ensure they verify the context of images they use in their reports, particularly those that have been recycled from previous events.
Background on RCCG
- RCCG is one of Nigeria's largest Christian denominations
- Founded in 1981 by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the church has over 10 million members across the world
Photo Misleading Example
The church's warning comes after a misleading photo of Pastor Adeboye from a 2020 prayer walk was used by journalists.
- The photo showed Pastor Adeboye with a large crowd, despite the church implementing social distancing measures during the pandemic
- The photo was widely circulated without proper context or clarification
Importance of Verification
The RCCG emphasized the importance of verifying images and ensuring they are not misused or misinterpreted.
By verifying images, journalists can avoid spreading misinformation and ensure their work is accurate and responsible.
