Police in Osun State, Nigeria, have arrested four men suspected of conspiracy, burglary, and theft involving mobile phones valued at approximately N5 million in the state capital, Osogbo. The arrests follow a series of intelligence-led operations conducted by the Osun State Police Command to address the incident reported in the Oja-Oba area.
The suspects, identified as Afeez Arole, 30; Salami Wahab Idowu, 49; Akanmu Afeez, 37; and Adebisi Taofeek, 47, were apprehended after credible information was received on September 22, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m. indicating that suspected hoodlums were active in the Oja-Oba vicinity. Acting on this intelligence, police operatives conducted surveillance and subsequently raided a suspected hideout, leading to the detention of the four individuals.
“The suspects allegedly stole different types of mobile phones from the shop, with the stolen items valued at approximately N5 million,” the statement said.
The initial report of the crime was filed on September 1, 2026, at about 10 p.m., when a shop owner in Oja-Oba reported that his premises had been burgled. According to DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, the incident prompted an immediate effort by the police to track down those involved in the alleged burglary and theft.
During the raid on the hideout, two Itel mobile phones were recovered from the suspects. The complainant later identified these specific devices as part of the inventory allegedly stolen from his shop. The four suspects have reportedly made statements to the police, and investigations are ongoing to determine the specific level of involvement of each individual in the offence.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura has directed the investigating team to intensify efforts to identify other members of the alleged criminal network and to recover additional stolen items. The Command has also urged residents of Osogbo to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police.
