The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Zamfara State Command arrested a suspected human trafficker and rescued two 13‑year‑old girls in the city of Gusau on Friday, October 15.

Public Relations Officer Umar Mohammad announced that 25‑year‑old Bala Abubakar of Zurmi Local Government Area was taken into custody at about 8:30 p.m. in the Lalan area of Gusau. The operation also freed Amira Baje Ibrahim and Haulatu Shaibu, both 13 and also from Zurmi LGA.

State Commandant Sani Mustapha said preliminary investigations revealed the girls had been targeted for trafficking from Shinkafi LGA and were intended to be transported to Suleja in Niger State, where they would be handed over to two individuals named Hadiza and Bara’atu, also known as “Yar Baba.”

Mustapha described the arrest as part of the NSCDC’s broader campaign to combat human trafficking and other criminal activities. He ordered the case to be transferred immediately to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and action.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to investigating and prosecuting suspects in accordance with the law, underscoring its role in safeguarding vulnerable populations in Zamfara State.
