The Defence Headquarters announced on Tuesday that military attacks in Nigeria fell sharply in October, recording 98 incidents compared with 367 in September – a 73.3 % reduction.
The drop was reported across all ongoing military operations, indicating a significant decline in the frequency of hostile engagements during the month.
According to the figures released by the headquarters, the total number of attacks decreased by 269 incidents from September to October, underscoring a notable improvement in security conditions for that period.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, has been grappling with a range of security challenges, including insurgency in the northeast, banditry in the northwest and communal clashes in the central region. A reduction in attacks, even if temporary, is viewed by officials as a positive development in the broader effort to stabilise the country.
The Defence Headquarters said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and maintain operational readiness to address any resurgence of violence.
