During a flag‑off ceremony for its Nasarawa State gubernatorial candidate, the People Democratic Party (PDP) called on voters to protect their ballots in the 2027 general elections. The event, held at the party secretariat in Lafia, the state capital, saw the PDP’s national deputy chairman for the North, Mr Yusuf Nya Agirikwe, urge supporters not to succumb to intimidation.
Agirikwe said the party “has the mandate of the people to rule them in this state” and that the mandate can only be realised if voters “will be able to vote and defend your votes.” He urged members to translate their numbers into a victory for Dr David Emmanuel Ombugadu, the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate.
Ombugadu thanked supporters for their commitment and pledged to focus on women, youth and leaders. He said the state’s abundant agricultural resources and mineral deposits should not be a source of poverty and promised to prioritise healthcare for the poor, ensuring pregnant women have access to hospitals and drugs.
The candidate also revealed a five‑year manifesto that places security and women‑capital development at the centre of his agenda. He thanked the national leadership, noting the absence of national chairman Nyesom Wike, and pledged full support to the party’s national direction.
“We are all united in support of our national leader,” Ombugadu said, adding that wherever the national leader goes, the state will follow. The PDP’s rally in Lafia underscored its determination to secure a win in the forthcoming elections by mobilising voters and safeguarding their ballots.
