The Centre for Public Accountability and Social Well‑Being (CPASW) praised the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State House of Assembly and the Nigeria Police Force for their recent interventions that have resolved a long‑standing land dispute between the Ojaekomo family and the Ojomu chieftaincy family in Sapata village, Ajiran, Eti‑Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The conflict centred on a 60‑hectare wetland parcel that the Ojaekomo family says was excised in its favour on 13 November 2015 during Governor Babatunde Fashola’s administration. A Lagos State House of Assembly resolution dated 3 August 2023 (LSHA/LM/C/50/VOL.II/93) subsequently allocated 27.65 hectares of the land to the Ojaekomo family and 32.42 hectares to the Ojomu chieftaincy family. The dispute flared in 2022 when the Ojomu family obtained Certificate of Occupancy No. 99/99/2022E covering the same area, prompting the Ojaekomo family to seek legislative intervention.

Following the petition, the state government revoked the Ojomu family’s certificate of occupancy and, in a letter dated 29 October 2025, the Office of the Attorney‑General and Commissioner for Justice confirmed implementation of the Assembly’s allocation. The Office of the Surveyor‑General prepared separate survey plans (Survey Plan No. LS/D/LA/8451/B) that delineate the 27.65‑hectare parcel for the Ojaekomo family and the 32.42‑hectare parcel for the Ojomu family. The police’s Force Criminal Investigation Department, led by Inspector‑General Tunji Disu, Assistant Inspector‑General Simeon U. Akpanudom and Officer‑in‑Charge Adewuyi Oyewale Taiwo, investigated related complaints, examining documents supplied by the Ojaekomo family’s counsel, Keshi Elvis.

CPASW issued a formal caveat emptor notice warning prospective buyers, developers, investors and the public against any transaction involving the 27.65‑hectare parcel allocated to the Ojaekomo family unless conducted through the family’s duly accredited representatives, Shaffykay & Co Property Limited. The notice cites the land’s identification in the Lagos State Survey Plan and allocation file (ES/LUAC/LB/PSDP/331) and states that unauthorised sales, leases, mortgages or other dealings will be treated as disputed and may trigger civil or criminal action.

The group also voiced concern over alleged attempts to pressure the Ojaekomo family to relocate to Epe or Ibeju‑Lekki, reports of intimidation and interference with the family’s internal affairs, and incidents involving workers hired by the family. A police petition was filed against Bashiru Fakorede and others alleged to be involved. CPASW stressed
