The Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State has expelled 12 students and rusticated five others for a range of serious offences, including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and sexual assault. The disciplinary actions were announced in a statement signed by the university’s spokesman, Abdullahi Yahaya Bello, and released to the Daily Post.
The decisions were made by Vice-Chancellor Professor Ahmad Mohammed Gumel following the review of reports from the 20th meeting of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee. The statement detailed that the expelled students were found guilty of violations committed both on and off campus, with the affected individuals drawn from various faculties and departments within the institution.
Among the 12 students expelled, six were sanctioned specifically for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery. Two additional students were found guilty of robbery and cult-related activities, while one student was expelled for phone theft. The remaining two expelled students were penalized for drug abuse on campus.
Five other students were rusticated, or temporarily suspended, for offences including attempted sexual assault and cyberbullying. Four of these students received suspensions lasting two semesters, while one student was rusticated for a period of one semester.
In addition to the expulsions and rustications, the university issued warning letters to five further students. These warnings were issued for offences such as cyberbullying, attempted sexual assault, and drug abuse committed off campus. The university emphasized that all disciplinary measures were the result of due consideration by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
