Retired Russia international Stanislav Cherchesov has hailed Nigeria’s Super Eagles as a “quality opponent” ahead of the Russian side’s friendly match on 6 October. The game will be played at the 44,000‑seat Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, which hosted matches during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement released to PUNCH Sports Extra, Cherchesov said the encounter would give the hosts a “good test” as they prepare for upcoming competitive fixtures. He praised the Super Eagles for their recent performances and suggested that a win against Russia would boost the team’s confidence.
Nigeria will travel to Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, for the match, which is part of the national team’s preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The venue, known for its modern facilities, has been a key site in international football since the 2018 tournament.
While the friendly is not a competitive match, it offers both sides an opportunity to assess squad depth and tactics ahead of the next phase of international competition.
