Mfoula Évariste Junior, a former corporal in the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) and ex-bodyguard of Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, has reportedly been detained in Cotonou, Benin. The arrest occurred while he was in transit, with reports indicating he was en route to Europe at the time of his interception.
The source material identifies Mfoula as a former caporal-chef of the BIR, a specialized unit within the Cameroonian military. His detention marks a significant development in the ongoing legal and political scrutiny surrounding former associates of high-ranking Cameroonian officials.
While the specific charges or legal basis for the detention in Benin were not detailed in the available report, the interception highlights the complex nature of cross-border law enforcement operations involving former state security personnel. The individual was reportedly stopped during a transit phase rather than upon final arrival in a European destination.
Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, the former official for whom Mfoula served as a bodyguard, has been a central figure in recent political and legal controversies in Cameroon. The detention of his former security detail member suggests continued interest in matters related to his circle of influence.
Benin, located in West Africa, serves as a common transit point for travelers moving between various African nations and Europe. The location of the arrest in Cotonou, the country's economic capital, underscores the international dimensions of the case.
Further details regarding the status of Mfoula’s detention, including potential extradition proceedings or local judicial actions, have not been specified in the initial report. The situation remains under development as authorities in both Benin and Cameroon navigate the legal implications of the arrest.
