The Nigerian Army announced that it has deployed a new infantry battalion together with an artillery regiment to Kano State in a bid to bolster security and enhance its capacity to respond to emerging threats.
The deployment, described by army officials as a strategic reinforcement, places both the fresh battalion and the artillery unit under the command of the state’s security apparatus, aiming to provide a rapid and coordinated response to any incidents that may arise.
Kano, a key northern state, has faced a range of security challenges in recent years, including banditry, communal clashes and insurgent activity. The addition of these forces is intended to address the heightened risk environment and protect civilians and critical infrastructure.
Military spokespersons indicated that the new units will work alongside existing security agencies, sharing intelligence and conducting joint operations to deter and neutralise threats before they can escalate.
The army’s move reflects a broader national effort to strengthen security across Nigeria’s most vulnerable regions, with officials saying the deployment will be continuously evaluated to ensure it meets the evolving security needs of Kano State.
