Umar Salah, a senior member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, has announced his switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the achievements of Governor Ahmed Aliyu as the main reason for his decision.
Salah, who has been a prominent chieftain within the ADC’s Sokoto chapter, said the governor’s record on development and security had convinced him that the APC was the best platform to further the interests of the state’s residents.
The All Progressives Congress is one of Nigeria’s major political parties and has held power at the federal level since 2015. The ADC, by contrast, remains a smaller opposition party with limited representation in the national assembly.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who has overseen a number of infrastructure and public‑service initiatives in Sokoto, has been praised by Salah for his leadership and governance style.
Sokoto State, located in north‑western Nigeria, is known for its rich cultural heritage and has been a focal point for political activity in the region. Defections such as Salah’s are not uncommon in the country’s dynamic political landscape.
