Former vice‑president Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, has publicly rebuked President Bola Tinubu, saying the incumbent’s threats and insults will not silence his “Affordable Life” campaign. The response was issued in a statement signed by Phrank Shaibu, director of strategic communication for the ADC’s Presidential Campaign Council.

Shaibu’s statement labelled Tinubu “a disaster,” adding, “Bola, Nigerians have tested your leadership. The outcome is clear: you’re a disaster.” The document also invoked a Yoruba cultural metaphor, noting that “a calabash filled with pepper symbolises leadership that is hostile, while a calabash filled with honey symbolises leadership that is welcoming and hospitable. Yours is a calabash of pepper.”

Atiku pledged to restore a “clear and fair fuel subsidy system” tied to local fuel refining, asserting that such a policy would lower the cost of petrol and diesel and deliver direct savings to Nigerians. He rejected Tinubu’s claim that the country would never return to subsidised fuel prices, saying, “With the support of God and following the will of the Nigerian people, I will bring back a clear and fair fuel subsidy system.”

The former vice‑president accused Tinubu of trying to remove him from the ballot, arguing that after three and a half years in office the president “has nothing to show for your time in power.” Atiku warned that Tinubu’s “history of failures is the most powerful argument against you.”

Concluding his remarks, Atiku expressed confidence that he will win the election by a large margin, stating, “My Affordable Life campaign will not be stopped by your insults or your threats. I’ll guide Nigeria towards prosperity, growth, and development again.” Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, is slated to hold its presidential election in 2027, where Atiku’s ADC platform will compete against the incumbent’s People’s Democratic Party.
