The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has warned its members that casting a ballot for former presidential candidate Peter Obi or the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be tantamount to “killing” the party, according to a statement reported by Punch Nigeria.
Obi, who previously ran under the Labour Party ticket, is now being linked to the NDC, a smaller political formation that has sought to expand its influence ahead of the 2027 general elections. APGA’s leadership framed the potential vote for either Obi or the NDC as a direct threat to the party’s survival and relevance.
In its cautionary message, APGA urged supporters to remain loyal to the party’s platform and candidates, emphasizing that a shift in voter allegiance could undermine the party’s ability to contest future elections effectively.
Nigeria’s political landscape features a multitude of parties competing for votes in a highly contested electoral environment. APGA, founded in 2002 and primarily rooted in the southeastern region, has historically positioned itself as an alternative to the two dominant parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party’s appeal to its base comes as the country prepares for the 2027 national elections, where voter realignments and coalition-building are expected to shape the final outcome. APGA’s warning underscores the strategic calculations parties are making to preserve their electoral foothold.
