Mikel Merino’s brace secured a 2-1 comeback win for Spain over Croatia in Split, guaranteeing the La Roja a place in the UEFA Nations League quarter‑finals.
Croatia opened the scoring early in the match, but Spain responded before halftime with Merino’s first goal to level the score. The Spanish midfielder then added a second strike in the second half, turning the tide and delivering the decisive lead.
The victory means Spain advance to the last eight of the Nations League, a competition that pits Europe’s senior national teams against each other in a league‑format tournament.
Spain, a four‑time European champion, joins the other quarter‑finalists as the tournament moves into its knockout stage, where the remaining teams will compete for a place in the final.
With the win, Spain will now turn its attention to preparing for the next round of the Nations League, aiming to continue its strong performance in the competition.
