Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Russian forces struck a power plant in Kyiv with a “Shahed” drone after U.S. President Donald Trump announced an “energy ceasefire” between the two countries.
In a social‑media post, Zelensky added that additional strikes hit energy facilities in the Kharkiv region, noting that the attacks came “AFTER the President of the United States made his statement about an energy ceasefire.”
Trump had earlier declared that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to halt strikes on each other’s energy infrastructure, a statement that Zelensky described as “news to me.”
The Ukrainian leader said the ceasefire claim was new to him and highlighted that the Russian attacks occurred after Trump’s announcement. As of the time of reporting, Moscow had not responded to Zelensky’s remarks.
The incident comes amid a broader pattern of attacks on Ukraine’s power grid since the war began in 2022, with both sides repeatedly accusing each other of violating informal agreements on civilian energy facilities.
