On 4 November 2026, delegations from Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea met in Yaoundé and agreed to harmonise their positions on the draft Unit Operations Agreement (Accord d’Opérations de l’Unité, AOU) ahead of forthcoming negotiations with the multinational oil company Chevron.

The two delegations, representing their respective governments, used the Yaoundé talks to align their strategic approach to the AOU, a framework that is intended to govern joint operational activities in the oil sector.

By presenting a united stance, the neighbouring oil‑producing states aim to strengthen their bargaining position with Chevron, which has significant exploration and production interests in both countries.

Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea are among Central Africa’s leading petroleum exporters, and Chevron’s projects in the region include offshore fields that contribute substantially to each nation’s export revenues.

The coordinated effort marks a preparatory step before the formal negotiation round with Chevron, signalling both governments’ intent to manage the partnership on mutually agreed terms.
