Aloy Ejimakor, the special counsel to Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, has publicly urged Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and Anambra State governor Chukwuma Soludo to end their ongoing feud, warning that the dispute harms both the politicians and the Igbo community.
The disagreement stems from Obi’s claim that Anambra State was debt‑free when his tenure as governor ended, a statement the current state administration disputes. Soludo’s government maintains that Obi’s administration left behind outstanding loans, salary arrears, pension liabilities and gratuities.
In a statement, Anambra Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation Dr Law Mefor said Soludo’s administration had cleared roughly N22 billion in inherited gratuity arrears owed to retired state and local‑government employees and teachers, underscoring the financial challenges inherited from the previous administration.
“Soludo and Obi should stop this feud. The Igbos egging them on, should also stop. The feud does no political good for either of them or for Ndigbo. And it won’t have any impact on who wins or loses the 2027 presidential election. Instead, it distracts one from governance, and the other from facing his campaign,”
Ejimakor emphasized that the rivalry would not affect the outcome of the 2027 presidential election, but it diverts attention from governance and campaign efforts. The Igbo, one of Nigeria’s largest ethnic groups, have historically sought political cohesion, and internal disputes risk undermining that unity ahead of national elections.
