Yaoundé, Cameroon – The 16th edition of the national “Semaine du pharmacien” was officially launched on 21 September 2026 in the capital, marking the start of a six‑day programme aimed at strengthening public health. The opening press conference was led by Dr Apoam, president of the organising committee, and attended by leading figures of the pharmacy profession and partner institutions.
Under the theme “Empowering professionals for a healthier future”, the week runs from 21 to 26 September 2026 and will feature scientific sessions, awareness workshops and field actions. Organisers say the agenda is designed to give pharmacists the tools they need to act decisively in the country’s health system.
Participants intend to reaffirm the indispensable role of pharmacists in Cameroon’s health architecture, improve their capacity to respond to contemporary crises and deepen collaboration between the state, professional orders and the public.
In a concrete response to the chronic shortage of blood products in health facilities, the pharmacists have launched a large‑scale blood‑collection campaign in partnership with the Centre National de Transfusion Sanguine (CNTS). The initiative, praised as a citizen‑driven effort, highlights the expanding remit of modern pharmacy beyond dispensing medicines to direct life‑saving activities.
As Cameroon continues to confront a range of health challenges, officials and professionals alike stress that pharmacists remain a critical frontline and humanitarian link, whose expertise and altruism are essential for protecting the population.
