Cameroon’s midfield player Carlos Baleba has publicly declared his preference for former Ivory Coast international Yaya Touré over fellow African legend Samuel Eto’o, saying the Ivorian star sits at the very top of world football.
Baleba, who currently plays in the Cameroonian league, made the comment in an interview that was reported by Actu Cameroun. He placed Tour Touré, a former midfielder for clubs such as Barcelona and Manchester City, at the summit of the sport.
Samuel Eto’o, a retired Cameroonian striker and multiple‑time African Player of the Year, has long been celebrated for his achievements with clubs like Barcelona and Inter Milan, as well as his record‑breaking international career.
Baleba’s assessment highlights a personal view that Yaya Touré’s performances and influence on the pitch surpass those of Eto’o, positioning the former Ivorian international as the benchmark for excellence among African footballers.
The statement adds to ongoing discussions within African football circles about the relative legacies of the continent’s most celebrated players.
