US President Donald Trump has vowed to prevent the implementation of global taxes for as long as he remains in office, while simultaneously calling for the immediate abolition of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The President made these declarations during his address at the ongoing 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
During his speech on Tuesday, Trump recalled his administration’s efforts to block the United Nations from establishing a global carbon tax. He described the proposed measure as "a very expensive tax" and asserted that the US government successfully stopped the initiative.
“Last year my administration stopped UN body, the international marathon organization, from secretly establishing the first ever global carbon tax, a very expensive tax,” Trump stated. “There is no global government and as far as I’m president there will be no global taxes.”
The President also directed significant criticism toward the International Criminal Court, which he labeled an "anti-American tribunal" and a "rogue institution." Trump emphasized that the US is equally opposed to the ICC and vowed that American service members would never be subjected to its investigations or trials.
He issued a direct challenge to the international community, urging all nations and current members of the court to take immediate action. “I call on all nations and members of the ICC to officially resign from this rogue institution immediately,” he said.
Trump further argued that the ICC’s focus is misplaced, claiming that UN staff officials spend their time criticizing the United States for domestic policies rather than addressing global atrocities. He specifically cited the US enforcement of immigration laws and the protection of children from what he termed "Transgender insanity" as examples of policies he believes are unfairly targeted by the organization.
