Troops from the 17 Brigade, working in collaboration with the Nigerian Police, have rescued seven kidnapped victims along the Dayi–Malumfashi road in Katsina State. The operation was carried out on the night of September 21, 2026, as part of sustained security efforts to combat kidnapping in the region.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the rescue took place at approximately 11:45 p.m. when security forces intercepted a green Volkswagen Golf 3, bearing the registration number Kano BCH-528ZY. The vehicle was found to be conveying the abducted individuals.
The seven rescued persons included six females, who were reportedly students at the Federal University in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, and the vehicle’s driver, identified as Sani Umar. The victims were secured during ongoing security operations along the route, with authorities continuing efforts to ensure their safety and investigate the circumstances of their abduction.
Military sources said the troops remain on high alert and have maintained strong operational readiness across the area.
The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in Katsina State, where military and police units have intensified patrols along major roads to prevent criminal activities. The rescue operation underscores the collaborative approach between the 17 Brigade and the Nigerian Police in addressing kidnapping incidents in the state.
