Troops from Operation Fansan Yamma have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered significant quantities of weapons and equipment during clearance operations in Sokoto State. The military action, which took place on October 15, 2026, was part of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore security in the joint operations area.

Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for Operation Fansan Yamma, disclosed the details of the engagement in a statement released on Friday. He reported that Sector 2 troops initially made contact with the terrorists at Waria Forest, leading to a firefight. During this exchange, one suspect was neutralised, and troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles, and other items.

Following the initial engagement, the troops moved to Sarma village, where they encountered another group of terrorists. In this second encounter, one suspect was neutralised, while the remaining members of the group fled the scene, abandoning their equipment. Danja noted that the operation resulted in a total of two terrorists being neutralised.

Further exploitation of the area by the troops led to the recovery of additional matériel, including six more motorcycles, two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition, and one communication device. The recovered weapons and equipment are expected to support ongoing efforts to disrupt the activities of armed groups in the region.

The successes demonstrated the troops’ sustained commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace and security across the joint operations area.

Lt. Col. Danja stated that the Theatre Command appreciated the continued support and cooperation of members of the public. The military has urged residents in the area to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security outpost.
