Senate President praises Tinubu's reforms
Senate President Godswill Akpabio visited President Bola Tinubu’s Lagos home on Friday to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, leading a delegation that included Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu.
During the visit, Akpabio said the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration are “working” and that insecurity is abating, allowing people to “sleep well.” He declared the National Assembly’s full legislative partnership with the executive and urged the nation to judge the government by results.
Akpabio acknowledged that the country still faces pockets of discontent, partly due to the proximity of elections, but he stressed that the unity of Nigeria remains a sign of resilience and divine favour. He noted that the reversal to the old national anthem reflects the love and brotherhood that bind the country.
He highlighted recent overhauls of colonial‑era tax laws, including stamp duties dating back to 1939, as part of efforts to reduce the cost of living. Akpabio said the National Assembly passed these reforms quickly and with broad support, aiming to benefit all Nigerians.
“We want to continue to remain worthy partners to the administration of President Bola Tinubu,” Akpabio said. “What we are doing is in the interest of all Nigerians.”
