Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu, Tope Ajayi, posted on X on 4 November 2026 that the United States’ mid‑term election suffered a number of technical glitches and logistical problems, but that American pundits and political operatives had not discredited the process in the same way Nigerians often do.

Ajayi said he had watched “pundits and political operatives and partisan talking heads on various US television networks” and that, despite the reported issues, the U.S. election “has not been discredited like many of our people do here.”

“I have watched pundits and political operatives and partisan talking heads on various US television networks. Despite some of the technical glitches and logistical problems with the mid‑term election they have not discredited the process like many of our people do here.” – Temitope Ajayi (@TheTope_Ajayi) 4 Nov 2026

Ajayi cited specific incidents, including ballot‑scanner programming glitches in parts of New York, equipment malfunction in Broward County, Florida that delayed voting, and a polling station in Kansas that received only 100 paper ballots instead of the expected 100,000.

He also noted that a separate issue would require 250,000 ballots to be counted manually because of a technical problem with a voting machine.

His remarks come amid ongoing debate over Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, which opposition parties and observers criticised for similar technical and logistical shortcomings.
