President Bola Tinubu, during a recent visit to Akwa Ibom State, reminisced about his early career as an auditor with the oil multinational Mobil, describing the trip as a “homecoming.”
The former accountant said the state held special significance for him because it was where he first entered the oil sector, working on audit assignments that gave him insight into Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
Tinubu’s remarks came as he toured the state’s capital, Uyo, and met with local officials and community leaders, underscoring the personal connection he feels to the region.
Akwa Ibom, a coastal state in southern Nigeria, is a major oil‑producing area and hosts several multinational energy firms, including Mobil, which has operated there for decades.
The president’s comments highlight both his professional roots and the broader importance of the oil sector to Nigeria’s economy, while also signalling his continued engagement with the states that have shaped his career.
