Vice President Kashim Shettima, speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Ekiti State on Thursday, said that five former governors of Adamawa State – including the current governor Umaru Finitiri – are not backing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“If somebody wants to give you a cloth to wear, look at the one that he is wearing; let’s analyze Adamawa State for instance,” Shettima said, adding that all five ex‑governors – Murtala Nyako, Umaru Finitiri, Shaibu Barka, Bala Ngilari and Bindow Jibrilla – are firmly aligned with the APC and are supporting President Bola Tinubu.
Shettima questioned why voters would support Atiku “when he is not relevant in his state.” He added, “If you can’t control your own state, if you are not relevant in your own state, how can you tell others to elect you? Voting is about grassroots politics.”
The comments come as the APC and its allies prepare to contest the upcoming presidential election, while the ADC positions Atiku as its leading candidate. The former governor’s statement highlights the political divide in Adamawa, where the APC has maintained control for several administrations.
