Hospitals in Yemen’s western city of Taiz are on the brink of shutting down as fuel, medicines and other essential supplies run alarmingly low under a tightening Houthi blockade.

The Houthi rebels, who control the city’s surrounding countryside, have tightened the siege, cutting off the delivery of critical resources to the city’s medical facilities. With generators running low on fuel, doctors and nurses are forced to ration electricity and rely on dwindling stocks of drugs.

Medical staff report that the shortage of basic supplies is threatening to halt routine treatments and emergency care. “We are running out of everything from oxygen to basic medications,” one hospital administrator said, highlighting the urgent need for relief.

Taiz has been a focal point of the ongoing Yemen conflict, with the city changing hands several times and suffering heavy civilian casualties. The blockade has compounded the humanitarian crisis, leaving thousands of residents without adequate healthcare.

Yemen’s central government has warned that the situation could spiral into a full collapse of the city’s health infrastructure unless supplies are restored. The international community has called for an immediate easing of the siege to prevent further suffering.
