Sydney, Australia - The Sydney Festival is set to host a "once-in-a-lifetime" dance program in January 2027, featuring 11 international dance works from renowned choreographers and artists from around the world.

The festival, which is set to make its southern hemisphere debut, will showcase a diverse range of dance performances from France, Belgium, South Africa, and beyond. This marks a significant increase in the scale of dance offerings, tripling the number compared to the last Sydney Festival.

With 174 performers and crew members joining the event, the program promises to be a grand spectacle. The crowning jewel of the lineup is "Outsider", a 2024 work by acclaimed French choreographer Rachid Ouramdane.

"Outsider" features 21 dancers from the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève and four elite athletes, who will navigate a "cat's cradle" of high wires and slack lines to mesmerizing music composed by avant-garde musician Julius Eastman.

The festival will also see the Australian premiere of "Dance Reflections", a collaboration between Rosalind Crisp and the Belgian choreographer and dancer, Gauthier Dance. This performance combines contemporary and traditional dance styles, reflecting the cultural diversity of Australia and Belgium.
