Obidient Connect urges diaspora Nigerians to mobilise voters for 2027 election
Obidient Connect, a support group backing Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential bid, has called on Nigerians living abroad to help mobilise voters in the country. The group asked each diaspora member to encourage at least ten people to go to the polls, even though they cannot vote directly from overseas.
In a social media post shared by Justice Crack, an Obi supporter, the group explained that Nigerians abroad can contribute to the electoral process by promoting civic participation. “You can support at least 10 people to exercise their civic responsibility—and you can even do more,” the post read.
Obidient Connect highlighted that Nigerians in the diaspora have experienced governance systems outside the country and can use that knowledge to encourage democratic participation. “If you live in the diaspora, you have seen how good governance can work, and you understand the kind of Nigeria many of us want to build at home,” the group added.
The appeal also urged overseas Nigerians to join the Obidient Connect platform and support efforts to increase voter turnout. “Join Obidient Connect. Let’s support civic participation and work towards a better Nigeria in 2027. Nigeria must be OK,” the group said.
The call comes amid disagreements between the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and some support groups over the organisation and leadership of Obi’s 2027 campaign. On 17 September, the Obi‑Kwankwaso (OK) Movement announced a 59‑member presidential campaign council, which the NDC has since distanced itself from, stating that only the party can constitute such a council. Obi also said the council was formed without his knowledge or approval.
