The President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Reverend David Idowu, who also serves as the Visitor to Bowen University in Iwo, addressed a convocation of students on Saturday, urging Nigerian youths to guard against the perils of distraction.

Idowu warned that the growing tendency for young people to become sidetracked by trivial pursuits could erode the moral fabric of society. He highlighted the importance of staying focused on education, faith and community responsibilities.

Speaking to the university’s graduating class, the Reverend called for a renewed commitment to personal discipline and collective values. He suggested that distractions—whether from technology, entertainment or other influences—can undermine the development of a responsible citizenry.

While the remarks were made in the context of a university convocation, Idowu’s message resonated with a broader audience of Nigerian youths who face a rapidly changing social landscape.
