Former France international Willy Sagnol was dismissed as the head coach of the Georgian national football team after a 1‑0 loss to Northern Ireland in a UEFA Nations League match.
The defeat came in the group stage of the competition, leaving Georgia with a disappointing result that prompted the federation to seek new leadership.
In a statement released by the Georgian Football Federation, Sagnol’s contract was terminated effective immediately, and the appointment of a new manager was announced.
Georgia’s new coach is listed as “Ra”, although further details about the individual’s full name and background have not yet been disclosed.
Sagnol, who earned 30 caps for France between 2003 and 2011, had taken charge of the Georgian side earlier this year but was unable to secure a win in the Nations League campaign.
