The Federal University of Health Sciences in Azare, Bauchi State, has formally requested that the federal government install a perimeter fence around its campus to address growing security concerns.
University officials say the absence of a protective barrier has left the campus vulnerable to unauthorized entry, theft and other security incidents that have recently affected students and staff. The appeal was submitted to the relevant federal authorities in an effort to secure the necessary funding and support.
“A perimeter fence is a basic but essential measure for safeguarding the university’s premises,” the university’s spokesperson said. “Without it, we cannot guarantee the safety of our community.”
Security challenges are not new to Bauchi State, where several educational institutions have reported similar issues. The university’s call for a fence is part of a broader push to improve safety across the region’s higher‑education facilities.
If the government acts on the request, the fence would provide a clear boundary, deter potential intruders, and help the university maintain a secure learning environment for its students and staff.
