Cameroon’s customs authorities have seized 827 mobile phones that were being smuggled into the country at the Djaglassi control post in the East region.
The interception was carried out by customs officers operating at the checkpoint, who confiscated the devices after detecting the illegal shipment.
The East region, one of Cameroon’s ten administrative divisions, shares borders with the Central African Republic and the Republic of Congo, making it a frequent transit point for cross‑border trade, both legal and illicit.
Customs officials said the seizure forms part of a broader effort to curb the illegal importation of electronic goods, which can undermine tax revenues and flood the local market with unregulated products.
The confiscated phones are now being held by customs pending further investigation and any subsequent legal action.
