A 300‑level student at the University of Lagos, Oriji Perfection, said he was robbed at gunpoint in the Gbagada district of Lagos, losing both his phone and laptop. The incident, which he described as “terrifying,” also involved threats that the assailants would kill him and attempt to frame him as a cultist.

According to Perfection’s account, the robbers approached him with a firearm, demanded his belongings, and warned that they would kill him if he resisted. After confiscating his phone and laptop, they allegedly told him they would later accuse him of belonging to a cult, a claim that could have serious repercussions in the university environment.

“Robbers threatened to kill, frame me as cultist,” the student said.

The student said he managed to escape the encounter unharmed but was left shaken by the experience. He expressed concern that being labeled a cultist could lead to disciplinary action or social stigma within the campus community.

Lagos, Nigeria’s most populous city, has seen a rise in armed robberies in recent months, prompting heightened anxiety among residents and students alike. University authorities have previously warned about the dangers of cult-related accusations, which can result in investigations and sanctions.

Perfection has called for increased security measures in the Gbagada area and urged fellow students to remain vigilant, emphasizing that threats of violence and false accusations should not be tolerated.
