RioFilme, the film and television agency of Rio de Janeiro’s municipal government, will unveil a R$100 million (approximately $20 million) incentive package on Oct. 1 at the RioFilm Fest’s RioMarket. The program is designed to support proposals for film and TV production, development, distribution and international co‑productions.
Leonardo Edde, president of RioFilme, told Variety that the agency will launch a call for proposals covering the full R$100 million amount. The announcement will be made during the RioMarket segment of the RioFilm Fest, a key industry gathering in Brazil.
The incentive package will be available to both domestic creators and foreign partners seeking to produce or co‑produce content in Rio de Janeiro. Eligible projects may receive funding for various stages, from development through distribution, according to Edde’s remarks.
RioFilm Fest’s RioMarket serves as a marketplace where producers, distributors and financiers connect, and the new incentives aim to attract additional investment to the city’s growing audiovisual sector.
Details on the application process and eligibility criteria are expected to be released alongside the Oct. 1 announcement, providing filmmakers and producers with guidance on how to apply for the funding.
