The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on its state governors to mobilise voters for the party’s candidates in the 2027 elections, according to a statement from the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, in an exclusive interview with the Saturday Sun.

Basiru said governors “have the responsibility to deliver for all the candidates of the APC in their states,” and that the duty of every party member is “clear‑cut.” He urged governors to work hard to secure votes for the APC presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates.

The call comes amid a public row between the Progressive Governors’ Forum and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over Wike’s Rainbow Coalition. Basiru said the coalition does not affect the party and that Wike’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a welcome development. He added that Wike has not asked the APC for financial or logistical assistance.

Basiru also defended the first term of President Tinubu, noting that the economy has stabilised, monthly state allocations are about N2 trillion, more than 1.6 million students have received education loans and over 10 million Nigerians have received cash transfers. He said the president’s decision to skip some campaign events is unrelated to health concerns.

On recent electoral performance, Basiru highlighted that the APC has won more than 80 percent of recent by‑elections, citing the Osun by‑election where the APC polled over 444 000 votes compared with the ADC’s 17 000. He also noted his sponsorship of a bill on state police, emphasising that states now have the resources to protect lives and property under constitutional safeguards.
