Adetutu Sobowale, a journalist with the Nigerian daily Punch, has been crowned the winner of the maiden Reporter Slam Nigeria contest after delivering a presentation on the challenges of reporting in the digital age.
The competition, the first of its kind in Nigeria, was organised to spotlight the evolving obstacles journalists face as news consumption shifts online. Participants were asked to articulate the pressures and opportunities presented by digital platforms.
Sobowale’s entry focused on the difficulties of maintaining accuracy, speed and credibility when reporting in an environment dominated by social media, rapid information cycles and emerging technologies.
Her victory not only highlights her own reporting skill but also underscores the broader need for media professionals in Nigeria to adapt to a rapidly changing digital landscape.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, boasts a dynamic press sector that is increasingly navigating the complexities of digital transformation while striving to uphold journalistic standards.
