The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of more than 3,800 senior police officers, including the appointment of two new Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and ten Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs), after the officers successfully passed recent promotional examinations.

The promotions follow a series of written and practical tests conducted by the PSC to assess the eligibility of senior officers for higher ranks. Candidates who met the required standards were placed on a merit list that formed the basis for the commission’s decision.

In addition to the two DIGs and ten AIGs, the commission confirmed the elevation of 3,867 other officers to various senior positions across the Nigerian Police Force. The exact titles of these newly promoted officers were not disclosed in the announcement.

The PSC, an independent body established to oversee recruitment, promotion, and discipline within the police, said the promotions are intended to strengthen the force’s leadership and improve operational effectiveness.

Such large‑scale promotions are a routine part of the police hierarchy’s renewal process, ensuring that experienced personnel fill key command roles as the force continues to address security challenges nationwide.
