Top YouTuber Mark Goldbridge said it is “very, very sad” that Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is “tainting a legacy through his own doing” after the football star left the national‑team camp ahead of a Nations League match with Norway.
Ronaldo posted an Instagram statement explaining why he departed the squad, later apologised to his teammates for the incident, and was subsequently suspended by the Portuguese Football Federation.
Speaking on the programme “The Overlap Daily”, Goldbridge contrasted the reception given to Lionel Messi with that afforded to Ronaldo, remarking: “Messi goes out to massive applause and respect, Ronaldo is tainting a legacy through his own doing, and that is very, very sad.”
“And I think that he is struggling with retirement, and he is struggling with losing that status visibly in front of us all. And I think it’s sad to see.” – Mark Goldbridge
Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença indicated that Ronaldo is expected to return to the national team during the November international break.
