Former Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal has publicly criticised Portugal coach Jorge Jesus over the way the manager handled the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from the national team camp during the UEFA Nations League.
Speaking on his personal stream, Vidal called Jesus “shame and very bad,” insisting that the coach should have protected the 41‑year‑old star. “You have to take care of Cristiano, protect him, a player who gave everything to Portugal, who placed the country as one of the best teams in the world,” Vidal said.
Ronaldo left the Portugal camp amid the ongoing Nations League campaign and has said he will reveal the truth behind his exit in the coming days. The player, who has been a key figure for the national side, has not yet provided further details.
Vidal added that a player of Ronaldo’s stature “can’t leave like that” and that he has the right to do whatever he wants. He praised Ronaldo for elevating Portuguese football to a higher level.
The comments come as Portugal’s campaign in the UEFA Nations League continues, with the team and its supporters closely monitoring the situation surrounding the star striker’s sudden departure.
