The Portuguese Football Federation has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo is under provisional suspension following the opening of a disciplinary case.
The 41‑year‑old forward, who has recently apologised for leaving the national team camp, has been placed on a temporary ban while the federation investigates the incident.
In an official statement, the federation said the Non‑Professional Section deliberated on 9 October 2026 to initiate proceedings “to investigate any disciplinary relevance of the facts participated on 7 October.”
The statement added that, “without prejudice to the automatic preventive suspension to which he was subject until the date of establishment, the non‑automatic preventive suspension of the player was determined and the urgent nature was attributed to the process.”
Ronaldo remains provisionally suspended and is awaiting the final verdict and decision on the case.
