During a monthly media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, criticised the opposition for dismissing President Bola Tinubu’s performance.
Wike urged opposition parties to recognise that “the time has come that not because you are in the opposition party and then you say the man who is in charge of the affairs of the country has done nothing just because of the sake that I’m in opposition, that is not fair.” He warned that politics should not be reduced to a “do‑or‑die” affair.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said the president “has done well” and that the opposition’s main goal is “to take over power.” He added that critics will claim the ruling party has done nothing, regardless of any achievements that benefit Nigerians.
Wike expressed concern that the opposition “is not telling Nigerians the truth.” He called on politicians from all parties to speak plainly about what is happening, stating: “When you see something that will help your country, come out and say it, it doesn’t matter if you are in opposition or not.”
