The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the suspects who killed Unwana Okon, a woman from Ndot Village in the state’s Oruk Anam Local Government Area.
According to police reports, Okon was lured to Mbiaikot Village under the pretense of purchasing Afang leaves, a local vegetable, before she was murdered.
The authorities say the woman was killed after being deceived and taken to the remote village, though details of the exact circumstances of her death have not been released.
Police officials have appealed to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and have pledged to pursue the case aggressively.
Akwa Ibom, located in southern Nigeria, is one of the country’s oil‑producing states and has a population that relies heavily on agriculture, including the harvesting of Afang leaves.
