Ogun State Police arrested a 26‑year‑old man suspected of involvement with a cult in the town of Atan, Ogun State, on Tuesday. The arrest was part of an ongoing effort to curb the activities of secret societies in the region.
During the operation, officers seized two locally manufactured pistols, three live cartridges and a battle axe from the suspect’s possession. The weapons were recovered in a small dwelling in Atan, where the police had received a tip about possible cult activity.
Police officials said the suspect was identified through a network of informants and was detained at the scene. The weapons were handed over to the state’s firearms control unit for further inspection.
The arrest comes amid growing concerns over the influence of cults in Ogun State, where authorities have increased patrols and community outreach to prevent violent incidents linked to secret societies.
