The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old former convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, widely known by the alias "Timaya," in connection with a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators in the state capital, Awka. The suspect was detained on the afternoon of Friday, October 9, during an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing criminal activities involving motorcycles across the state.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, confirmed that Eleh is linked to multiple incidents where POS operators and other victims were targeted in Awka. During the arrest, police operatives seized several items believed to be connected to the alleged crimes, including one motorcycle, one axe, one cutlass, and other incriminating materials.

The suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine the full extent of his involvement and to identify any potential accomplices. Ikenga stated that the arrest is part of the command's sustained efforts to track down criminal elements responsible for motorcycle-enabled robberies within Anambra State.

CP Nnanna Oji Ama, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, reaffirmed the command's dedication to protecting lives and property. He emphasized the commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of such crimes are brought to justice and held accountable for their actions.

In light of these developments, the police command has urged the public, particularly POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders, and other business owners, to remain vigilant. Residents are advised to promptly report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station to assist in ongoing security efforts.

“Further developments shall be communicated as the weekend patrol commences,” the official statement read.
